Talking about inclusion – in French
I was invited to take part in a panel discussion in Paris, France on June 3, 2021. The event was titled Recontres BrutPop: Pédagogie musicale et inclusion. The organiser of the event, BrutPop (https://brutpop.blogspot.com/), is a French-based music activist group that organises events, experimental music workshops and created DIY instruments for people with special needs. In the panel discussion I was asked to reflect upon inclusion within music and music education guided by questions such as: Is inclusion a fixed objective, or a direction? Is it something that can be reached? Who does the responsibility of the process of inclusion fall on? What responsibilities for institutions versus for individuals? How to move forward together?
